Link Wheel Strategies!

Boosting Your Website with LinkWheels

Everyday I come across blogs and forums of people questioning the effectiveness of Linkwheels. While many believe that they help in promoting your website, others claim it is useless.

Essentially what is done is this:  each Web 2.0 property is linked to each other in a circular fashion.  Once the circular linking is done each property is also linked to your website or a “hub.”  This can be another Web 2.0 property.  And, this hub can be linked to your website.   The purpose of this structure is to produce massive links and traffic to your website or blog.

In my six years experience as an SEO expert, I have utilized linkwheels to promote my main site. While it is true that I used other web 2.0 properties (weebly, squidoo, jimdo, wordpress and others) which in reality are not my money site, they helped me a lot by linking back to my promotional website. It gives me joy whenever I get a higher PR, but I get a greater satisfaction having one of my Web 2.0 properties on the 1st page of Google.  After all, I want to make money online and having my link on the 1st page of Google means I “make money.”

Let me share with you some of my best practices that has helped attain links on the 1st page of Google and have eventually given my websites a high PR.

There is no guarantee that your link wheel will get your website to the top SERPS of Google.   The Google algorithm changes and we have no way of tracking exactly how it functions.  As such, we need to continually build links after creating a link wheel. The more links or backlinks you have, the greater the chances are of your website being visited or viewed and eventually jumping to a higher PR. Or, showing up in the SERPS on the 1st page of Google.   Here are some criteria I have followed:

  • Most important factor is to enrich your page with unique and fresh content. People simply write and post articles without considering its contents. For a start, create one unique article that is keyword rich for your phrase or keyword.  You then create 5 other articles (4 if you use your website), and post these to your Web 2.0 properties.   The other articles can be “spun” from your original article but they still must be unique and should contain the keyword. Note all of these articles have to pass the Copyscape test saying it is unique. Doing these simple tasks and using keyword/phrase unique articles will help blast you to the Google’s top page.
  • After posting your articles to the web 2.0 properties, you need to ping the URL and RSS feed from each property.
  • Make each title of your article Interesting and Unique.
  • Don’t abandon your linkwheels after they are created; instead, make them even stronger by submitting articles to various sites targeting your keywords. Put URLs of your website in a number of pictures and send to various sites hosting pictures. You may also create videos, promote your URL in the video and again post to top ranking video host sites.

In general, I must say that LINKWHEELS are still on their exploratory stage and even until now, no one can really measure their effectiveness. We may differ in opinion but the end of the day we will find out that the only way to know is to give it a try and see how it works!
